Betty- Perkins Carpenter,
this area senior fitness guru, shared the dais with some of
the world's famous people at this summer's prestigious
Chautauqua Institute.
Perkins Carpenter, CE0 of Senior Ffitness, and author of books
for seniors, spoke Wednesday, July 24, on "Your Future Wellness:
YOU Hold The Key".
The
Institute set in the lakeside Victorian Village, promotes the
arts, education, religion, and recreation. Among the sneakers at
his year's institute which is still in session, were Andrew Young, former U.S. ambassador to the
U.N. and, and ex-mayor of Atlanta; Hodding Carter III, President and CEO of the
Knight Foundation, and former Assistant
Secretary of State for public affairs; and Leonard Downey Jr.,
Executive Editor of the Washington Post; and veteran
journalist Jack Nelson, among other notables.
Among
the entertainers were Judy Collins, the Beach boys, Don
McLean, Paul Anka, Smokey Robinson, Arturo Sandoval, the
Spinners.
Carpenter held her own among the elite. Mother nature
provided the only flap, the wind flipping the pages as she
spoke..
"Was I nervous?,
she said. Looking out at the distinguished
audience, I said something like "please bear with me while I get
this straightened out, and everything was OK."
Grandmother Carpenter, former Olympic diving coach and
teacher, talk about the importance of the mind-body connection
and humor in aging successfully. She speaks at many senior
gatherings in Rochester area and is a former Goldman Times
columnist.
She is
