Perkins Carpenter Speaks at Chautauqua Institute

Betty- Perkins Carpenter, this area senior fitness guru, shared the dais with some of the world's famous people at this summer's prestigious Chautauqua Institute.

Perkins Carpenter, CE0 of Senior Ffitness, and author of books for seniors, spoke Wednesday, July 24, on "Your Future Wellness: YOU Hold The Key".

The Institute  set in the lakeside Victorian Village, promotes the arts, education, religion, and recreation.  Among the sneakers at his year's institute which is still in session, were Andrew Young, former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. and, and ex-mayor of Atlanta; Hodding Carter III, President and CEO of the Knight Foundation, and former Assistant Secretary of State for public affairs; and Leonard Downey Jr., Executive Editor of the Washington Post; and veteran journalist Jack Nelson, among other notables.

Among the entertainers were Judy Collins, the Beach boys, Don McLean, Paul Anka, Smokey Robinson, Arturo Sandoval, the Spinners.

Carpenter held her own among the elite.  Mother nature provided the only flap, the wind flipping the pages as she spoke..

"Was I  nervous?, she said.  Looking out at the distinguished audience, I said something like "please bear with me while I get this straightened out, and everything was OK."

Grandmother Carpenter, former Olympic diving coach and teacher, talk about the importance of the mind-body connection and humor in aging successfully. She speaks at many senior gatherings in Rochester area and is a former Goldman Times columnist.

She is the author on "How To Prevent Falls,"  "Stretching in Bed," and "The Fun of Fitness," available by calling by 586-7584.
