NATIONAL PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS MONTH

Free public celebration on National Mall features interactive fitness, sports and dance demos, yoga, health information/screenings, fitness tips  

When:  Monday, May 2,   10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.  (12:00-Ceremony)

Where:  National Mall, between the Capitol Reflecting Pool  and 4th Streets, SW, Washington, DC

Who:  The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports  

   Lynn Swann, chairman—television sportscaster /NFL Hall of Fame member

    Denise Austin, member —health and fitness leader/television personality

    Amanda Cromwell—member, Olympic soccer player/coach

    Pam Danberg-- member, Paralympic swimmer

In celebration of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) will showcase activities to help you get moving for fun and good health.  PCPFS chairman Lynn Swann will host the event, which includes ongoing interactive sports demonstrations (football, soccer, running) as well as bicycling, yoga, fitness dancing, snowshoeing and some new sports –Tchouckball, USFooty, and Paddle Battle. Health and fitness experts from over 80 organizations will be on hand to share tips and health information at exhibits and  to perform demonstrations on two stages. Kids’ activities include an obstacle course and climbing wall. All ages are urged to attend, particularly schools, senior groups, sports enthusiasts;   federal workers are encouraged to visit during the lunch period and attend the 12 noon  ceremony  on stage introducing dignitaries and special guests.  

 

 

Dr. Perkins-Carpenter was recently honored at the Governor's Mansion in Albany for her service to seniors.
